Bentonite
Bentonite is a plastic clay formed from the alteration of ancient volcanic ash once exposed to seawater and consisting predominantly of smectite minerals usually montmorillonite. Bentonite clay is part of the “smectite” group of clay known for its ability to expand when exposed to liquids. Depending on its source, it’s rich in a variety of minerals such as silica, magnesium, calcium, sodium, copper, iron, potassium, quartz, and feldspar. Bentonite presents strong colloidal properties and its volume increases several times when it comes into contact with liquids, creating a gelatinous and viscous fluid. Its special properties such as hydration, swelling, water absorption, and viscosity make it valuable for a wide range of applications. For example:
drilling mud
a binder
a purifier
an absorbent
a carrier for fertilizers or pesticides
There are 2 types of Bentonite:
Sodium Bentonite which has a natural swelling ability and will maintain its swelling ability throughout its use
Calcium Bentonite marketed as Fuller’s Earth and used to refine petroleum products, oils and fats.
MADKIM provides the best quality of sodium bentonite from the most reliable sources to meet the exigences of international markets.
